Mt McKinley from Mary Carey's McKinley View. They say only a minority of visitors to Alaska even ever get to see it. |
I've had a fun week since last Wednesday. We went to pick up my in-laws from the airport in Anchorage and took them north to a little motel/restaurant called "Mary Carey's McKinley View" near Denali National Park. The next day we went into the park and took a shuttle bus for a 6.5 hour ride in the park. We saw a grizzly bear (maybe two), some dall sheep, eagles, moose, etc. I hadn't seen any bears since coming to Alaska, so I had fun doing that. It was close to the bus digging up roots.
The camera ran out of pics before we got really close! |
On Friday we slept in at the motel and had sweet rolls at the restaurant before we made the long drive back home. It was a beautiful day, and we've had mostly beautiful days all week.
On Saturday we took David and Margaret to our morning worship service. It ended up being a great time for them to come as our dear friends had a naming ceremony for their dear daughter who has had a really rough start to her life.
On Sunday we stayed home most of the day and took it easy.

On Monday the girls started drama camp in town. It has been a really good experience for them. Then we went to Homer with David and Margaret and showed off the beautiful views. There were a lot of sea otters out and about, and the moose seem to be really active along the roadsides lately too, which makes for a nice time for outsiders.
Today I took my mother-in-law to watch the girls at drama camp. Later I gave her a tour of the two clinics where I work. Tomorrow I go back to work, and David and Margaret fly home.
